HIATUS - Hey guys (if anyone's still here ^^;), I'm back!!! Sorry I've disappeared for so long! (Yours truly seems to always disappear without notice..) Since the beginning of summer this year, I've been engaging myself in classes again, hoping to catch up with the studies I missed! So I became super, duper busy with school--not to mention, still working part-time. @_@ I barely had time to breathe! Hahaha.. But anyways, thanks to those of you who still check in with me every once in a while. (I LOVE YOUUUU<span class="messageBody translationEligibleUserMessage" data-ft="{"type":3}">♥) But just in case anyone didn't notice from the feed on the side, I still update my Facebook page ^^ so if my blog feels lonely, you know where to find me!! (IvyOneStyle on Facebook.com)
And the subtle chills in the air, have they been throwing you off on sunny days? --Honestly, I am too happy to see more sun than cloud >___<;; but it's definitely best to be prepared no matter how decieving the weather looks! ---Which could be a good thing for some of us that don't mind having more time to play around with our spazztacular wardrobe of coz' and layers. Exceptionally, this is also the best time to get your last shopping for the season!

Sweaters, outerwear, and winter accessories are now on sale for a great deal! If you missed the popular call for military coats and fantastical capes from F/W 2010, don't fret. The trend is still to last, and they are now everywhere to be found! Of course, you know where I found mine. ;)
(The show is where celebrities are paired up as false couples and are given missions each week to see how well they interact with each other. And the Adam couple got their nickname for their height lols ^.^) Well, Son Ga-In, the "wife" in the couple and singer from popular girl-band, Brown Eyed Girls, is known for her cool, chic fashion sense. I've always loved her outfits on the show---her wide sleeves, oversized cape jackets and tops. With a guitar by his side and a long coat that always draws the attention of a peeking scarf, and not to mention, skinny bottoms and boots to emphasize his long legs, his style speaks effortless charm and character. My favorite from him is his military coat, which can be favored by both ladies and gentlemen.
And generally, when we say "Military" I think of olive green--- a color that I am SO obsessed with these days!! Green sweater, green scarf, green leggings, green tights, green shoes.... I don't even know why I'm so drawn to the same colored stuff! XD ..It's like mellow but mysterious and gives a touch of genuinity.
So past Saturday, my friends and I had the photoshoot that we were all planning since October. My friend, Derek (whom you may or may not know by his blog, PopSTYLEcle), from school in New York came down to visit and help out with the styling. The theme was "to look homeless but chic," and I have to give major props to him for the look---the outfits were superb and rather cute!!

But you have NO idea WHAT we went through just to find some of the most ridiculous things for the outfits---A thin leather belt and a pair of long purple socks drove us all the way to the mall where everything either looked too "new" or was out of our budget. The thrift shop was closed and a vintage shop that we had to look up online didn't have them either. (What! No vintage leather belts?! Come on.) So we walked the rest of the small town for its other antique shops... and of course, no luck. Finally---and it was like dark out, our very, very last resorts were Walmart and Sears LOL, where we ended up buying kids' clothes that we tore off the sleeves for socks (and a set of men's long tees that we cut and tore apart as well). I still can't believe we wasted the entire day looking for a stupid pair of purple socks! (And nowhere had them!!! ....So my question is, where do Ravens fans get their socks then? lol!)

Anyway, we stayed up till 3am, cutting, tearing, ripping and sewing.

When Saturday came (the day of the shoot), we met a few new people from Silverspring---Vanessa, our make-up artist, and her guest Eric, who helped us out with the last minute destruction of clothes as we came to realize that the outfits needed to look more raggedy and teased. Shiowei, whom I had also just met, was so kind enough to model for us---They were all such wonderfully easy-going and fun people to work with! (Thanks to Tim, too, who fought through the cold for us with his modeling! And Joe, who lent us her place for the styling and took us around her little town for the shoot. The list just goes on.)

Speaking of the cold..... it was sooo incredibly windy that day that it was hard to withstand, no doubt, but ...highly spectacular for the pictures!! HAHAHA. I had imagined a rather cold, gloomy setting for the models that would acquire pale faces, redden noses and ears, and numbed expressions. So thanks to the weather, I was able to capture a few natural expressions. xD
It was fun layering up and looking cute in the Fall but when Winter comes around, STAYING WARM is just all I can think about! I’m just so darn sensitive to the cold! And I know a lot of girls (and guys?) don’t like dressing up in Winter either because who wants to look big and all bundled up like a snowman? XD Well, I’ve seen those who refused so much as to wear nothing but a sweater and shorts with boots—which is pretty cute! ..But of course the first thing that comes to mind whenever someone sees that is, “What the freak? Is she CRAZY?!” Yes, she is. …..But she only wanted to look cute.. : (

So let’s find a smarter way to look chic AND be warm! XD

As you’ve probably experienced (and guys have always asked) leggings and skinny jeans DO, in fact, keep our legs much warmer (in a certain amount of time of course) than loose, baggy bottoms no matter how it looks. Because they are so tightly fitting, they act as our second skin and create friction whenever we move, thus keeping us warm. So there you go, as ridiculously as it sounds, my new bottoms for the season!

But the thing with leggings is that you can’t just wear what you normally wear on top (regular tees and hoodies, etc) because it IS quite awkward seeing someone’s hip and "undie" ^^;; area if your tops don’t go over them—You’re technically “covered” but you still look naked! (I’m sure you feel naked too.) I have seen people dressed like that, and it is absolutely unattractive and disturbing!

So to cut the story short, in the fall when I wore leggings, I loved my long tees with cardigans and scarves. In the winter, I’d like to collect a bunch of snuggly, oversized sweaters. There isn’t much mix-and-matching to do, so I like to look for unique color, material, tailoring, patterns, and textures to help make my outfit pop.

Irregular hems, uneven stripes, distressed, ribbed, cable knits, wool blends, cashmere, angora, etc.

Scarves that come huge, thick, long, or circle and knitted, furry hats make great winter accessories to go along with your sweaters.

Since you can’t mix-and-match “above”, you can “below”! Leggings can be worn with shorts or skirts to give your outfit more depth; and shorts come in many different forms and material. For the season’s best choices, you have tweed, wool blend, cordoroy, and even denim that’s classic and timeless. Pleats, godets, and ruffles make it more fun. And leggings come in different patterns—perfectly suitable for solid tops and one pieces. You also have loose legwarmers and rollover socks to go with your boots or sneakers.

If you’re really THAT cold, it’s okay to throw on a coat now because your outfit is so remarkably put together that there’s no way you’ll have to look like that snowman again! (Or Christmas tree, xP)

Speaking of the holidays---but on a very random note xD,
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

Stay warm (and chic!) everyone!! ;)))))))))

(For the Work World)During the first few weeks that I got my new job at JCrew, I've stressed quite a bit over what to wear for work (yes---the person who is writing this style blog has days when she stresses over what to wear too!) Why? Because unlike everyday wear where you can just dress however you want, of course there is a dress code for work and the stupid dress code sure made me frustrated for some time! ---BUT, not anymore :) I've learned ways to emulate my own style within the "uniform". And here's one of them.

Have you been told before, that you can't wear shorts to work?

As much as shorts are considered "inappropriate" for workwear at most places, they CAN actually be worked with! In fact, skirts were once considered scandalous in the past, no? But now they're made one of the two ultimate options for ladies' office wear (dress pants vs skirts). ---So shorts WILL eventually make their way into the work world too, ladies. Actually, in some European and Asian countries right now, women are already wearing shorts to work!

Bermuda shorts, capris, skorts, pleated shorts, trouser shorts, twill, and wool shorts.

As long as the material and tailoring are similarly adopted from your classic idea of suitwear, you'll automatically and still capture the neat, professional, and sharp look that's appropriate for business, allowing these new renovated pants to be equally respected. Now WHY are we so concerned about this new fashion? Because it spices up your day, just to wear something totally different! With just ONE new piece of clothing added to your wardrobe for work, you can pull out SO MANY different outfits. Plus, you will feel less stiff, more comfortable at work ---and still look chic and professional.

How to define a pair of "office" shorts...

1. MATERIAL - Nice cotton, twill, wool ...nothing too thin and lacks structure. Also, choose loose and more fabric over tight and hugging silhouettes.
2. LENGTH - No shorter than an office skirt! (which the shortest is probably around 6'' up from the knee)
3. DETAIL - Shirts or tops must be tucked in. No more than the basic 5 pockets in the front and 2 on the back. Buckles and straps may be nice for style but in most cases, the simpler the better and the least attention grabbing. *TIP: If you wear leggings with your shorts, it'll show less skin for more modesty. Add a thin, leather belt and it will help refine your look.

So the next question is, what should you wear with your shorts?

Well, just treat them like you would a suit skirt. What do you usually wear with your skirt to work? Blouses and shirts. Those are the best options of course. But depending on your work place and the atmosphere, you can even wear basic knits underneath! By basic knits, I mean tees: short, long, or no sleeves that can be plain or adorned with little detail such as emphasized necklines, studded pattern, or ruffles and pleats. Or to be safe, chiffon is always nice.

If you feel that your top is too plain or casual and throws off your effort to pull off those shorts, then for accessory, you can wear jewelry embreaded in crystals or pearls (because they're not "too much"). Or what I love doing is simply throw on a blazer, which always completes the look with much charm and smart.

So basically you are just mixing casual into your formal wear. Instead of dressing like everyone else everyday (because you feel obligated by the dress code) you can find ways to renovate those codes into your own (without breaking them necessarily.) Of course, if you WERE told that shorts weren't allowed, then you should definitely check with your manager first because it's not gauranteed that every manager will agree!
Fall is here! (Thank goodness.) And so are hundreds and hundreds of new clothes and accessories for the season! (Yippee!!!) Here are my picks from what I found recently :)

Sweaters and Shirts for Starters BIG, WIDE, AND CHUNKY = SO incredibly cute and comfortable. And you know what Fall calls for? Amazing head-to-toe layers of fun! So when it starts to get little chilly, with these wonderfully roomy drapes, you can simply hug yourself with one (two, or even three!) long sleeves underneath. Now's the time for you to mix and match away with your favorite basics---striped, patterned, artistically textured, and so much more. Even a perfect white shirt with refined tailoring would compliment!

Pearls to Set the Mood Small pearls. Big pearls. The point is, the more the better! The precious roundlets of pinks and ivory really do show the best in you, ladies. They reflect the glow from the wearer's face and bring forth a refreshing look of energy and youth!

Gloves for the Arms One of my obsessions this year, absolutely. You'd think you're all set when you have your sweater and basics but oh, not quite! If you throw on a pair of these little fiesty knits for the arms, THEN you'll be complete ---ly adorable! (And snuggling warm, might I add!) My favorite is the ones with rib texture and tend to bundle up at the wrist in thick folds. (Think chunky and cute, right? ;)

Cool Shoes for Character
Tall, tough, and laced-up is the way to spunk up that cuteness with some edge! These subtle, skyrocking booties will go perfect with skinny jeans and flawless drapes.

Leather to Finish Off with Charm
Remember those slouchy bags of leather goodness and skinny shoulder straps from one of my earlier entries (Stripes and Flowers)? Ah! I just can't get them out of my head!! ...But guess what. I don't need to! :D The lovely tans, browns, blacks and oranges of leather would go just as beautifully with autumn! So I'm relieved as I can continue side by side with my favorite bag. Smooth, elegant, but imperfect, the finest leather bags to me are the ones that speak utter craftsmanship and age. Those make the most dashing accessory for modest charm.

I've decided. --I WANT MY KIDS TO WEAR JCREW!
(Says the girl who once hated kids and still has no clue what to do when she has to interact with them. lol!)

Hm. I don't know when or how it started but, I've actually grew a liking to these little people... I even thought, numerous times before, how I'd like my own kids to be---Decent, outgoing, confident and inspired. (I knowwww. Easy enough for me to say!) And JCrew's CREWCUTS really protrays this ideal. Adorably bundled up in playful, stylish and expressive layers---it's a conservative look but SO smart, novel, and mischievous!

And honestly, I rather have my kid walk up to a crewcut mannequin dazzling in a ruffle knit dress with belt detail and a mini wool coat with a pair of suede boots---totaling over $100 if you might add, than to have her go, "Mommy, I want that!" at some other girl her age on TV that's wearing a tank top over booty shorts.

Seriously. What is the society trying to convey these days anyway?? I remember seeing a little section of tiny bras for girls ages 5-7 in a department store a few days ago. And then some woman was walking around with her little girl in a strapless tube top with padded chest................ I couldn't believe what I was seeing!! All I have to say is--- People, having your kids dress like that is NOT a good influence! (And some money just can't be saved! Throw a few third pieces into their closet --e.g. cardigans, jackets, vests-- and show them how to mix and match with them! It'll teach them that wearing clothES is stylish---as opposed to NOT wearing much. - .- And who knows, it might even bring out their own creativity in the way they dress! ;)

If you want an idea, Crewcuts is the way to go!Ivy Wanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15630656080581975937noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1904032823004096898.post-7247806090315971972010-08-25T20:39:00.005-04:002010-08-25T20:51:47.330-04:00Everything But FashionHey!! It’s been TOO long of a time since I’ve updated this blog---Sorry!! Ivy grew busy like a buzzing bee (again) these past few weeks. Because my friend was leaving to study abroad in Italy soon, I went to visit her and spend a few days with her and another dear friend of mine that I haven’t seen in ages. Ah, I really miss you two so much already. Thank you for taking me to sooooo many great places with great food (HAHA!!) and making me laugh endlessly. The time we spent was filled with YEARS of memories ..but felt so short. I pray that the day all three of us (four, including Derek!) meet again, will be at school.. and that it will come soon!!! ^^
But guess what—I got the job!

Since I disappeared for a while, I owe you an explanation. XD

The INTERVIEW.

Casual. And …bewildering? So I rushed there right after I got off from work and managed to arrive RIGHT on the dot, only… a bit frustrated that I had to be seen in my usual UPS work attire. (So embarrasing! And the least flattering.) The manager was beyond kind and friendly. My first surprise here, was when she led me out the store to the nearest bench around the corner of the mall. (I thought I was going to be sitting in her office XD.) The next surprise was, I was never once asked about my work experience. (Stumped!)
Instead, she was more interested in the school I went to and what kind of work I did there. Oh, don’t get me wrong though—I am definitely not complaining. The interview turned into such an exciting conversation that I had completely forgotten to be nervous. I was immediately spun with a thirst of stories to tell. It was lots of fun but it had me leaving, a bit confused and clueless as to what her answer was. (Even now, I am still rather stunned and speechless haha! But very, very grateful.)

J-WORK.

Monday was actually my first day of work ^_^. Though I literally spent most of my time standing behind the counter going through a thick trainee’s guidebook with my manager, I couldn’t help but feel tirelessly refreshed and intrigued by the silliest things possible. Yes, the shiny wooden counter… the screen on the computer, the tag scanners, oh—but the VIEW of the store from the counter was the loveliest. I get my own walkie talkie with earpiece too! How’s that for coolness? (I still need to remember to press the button when I talk though lol...) —And I need to tell you HOW startling it was when customers started to come up to me. (I was the only one at the counter after my manager left for a bit.) Luckily, having watched enough from Amanda’s demonstrations, I remained calm and greeted the customers happily, walking myself through the transaction… and transaction. I did it! Two whole transactions all by myself! WOOT!! (Pat on the shoulder)

And that was it.

Hahahahaha. Finally, time came for the store to close. This was the BEST part of the day for me. I got to go around the entire store reorganizing the clothes and making sure everything looked as perfect as they can be. So you can probably imagine a love struck smile stuck on my face as I’m diligently folding button-ups and persistently lining the clothes on the racks by their color. And you’re wondering why this girl is so easily amazed by everything she touches and sees..

My friends, you have got to see—no, BE at the mall after closing!! It is the most magical moment of all. I can’t explain it but even though the lights are dim and the stores are closed, just walking through it by yourself and seeing a few others still putting things together before the end of the day, feels kind of peaceful. Instead of swarms of people and loud noises, all you see are clothes, and it’s like they’re beautifully frozen in time.

Hahahaha just listen to me talk (or read what I write), I sure sound like a psycho. OBSESSED!!! Hahaha noooo, I am not~~ TT^TT… I just never (dared to) imagined that this would happen. Once upon a time, I had daydreamed about walking through an all arts school surrounded by students alike, with bags of supplies and artwork tucked under their arms. And then ---Voila. Somehow I ended up at FIT years later. And I had also dreamed of having the mall to myself when it’s closed—I imagined all kinds of things, that there would be sparkles in the air if I looked up and then I’d know that the pretty mannequins would come alive (hahaha!!! Now that sounds a bit scary, I know, but well, have you seen Korean girl band, SNSD’s Gee music video?? LOLOL!!! That was what it was like. Kinda. Minus all the vomiting “cuteness”. xDDDD… Sorry I am not a fan!! But I like the concept…? :D) And well, here I am! I truly thank God (thank You, dear Father!) for granting this silly, clueless girl’s dreams. Hahahaha. Ah, I am still not reacting correctly to all of this. I think one day, it will finally hit me.

Anyhow, along with my first successful day of training at Jcrew, I also got a lottt of sneak peeks and fun facts about our brand! So I’ll be sharing with you a few of my favorites in the next entry! Thanks for reading! ^ ^
So excited!!! I really hope I'll get the job because I've been dreaming to work there for a while. 'Got to LOVE being surrounded by people who are just as enthusiastic about clothes--and not just any clothes! I'm talking about adorably layered up with down to earth pastels and chic! Voila~ Here's a sneak peak of what I saw and liked from J.Crew's pre-fall lookbook. :)

Oh my God, I've been wanting my own ones since LAST winter!!! Am I so happy to see them again x) I always think they give you a mysterious, cat-like aura hahaha. I also love fur too--if it's FAUX, that is. I have... a bubble jacket with a bountiful fur-trimmed hood, a vest that's entirely fur, and ..another vest that has a furry hood. The texture is just so interesting and adds character!

Check out these Oxfords!

Whether heeled or flat, you just can't overpower their humble and modest silhouette, beaming with classic etiquette. Don't underestimate them either! Though slick and solid, they speak absolute cuteness, especially when worn with leggings or even a pair of comfy, trouser socks!

Heyyy!

I'm actually at work right now LOL! I was thinking---I didn't get to post anything last week so I should announce what I'm up to these days haha C: and this will just be an informal "behind-the-blog" update from me! :P

WORK

I certainly don't know why but it sure seems like people just suddenly have a lot of stuff to ship/deliver these days!! (Here's the laugh if you don't know---I work at a UPS store. HAHA!) I've been running around, packing, answering endless phone calls, and trying my hardest not to be overwhelmed by the sight of more people building up behind my customer at the counter all day! O__O Whew! In fact, the only reason why I am able to work on my blog right now, is just because everyone's left, and I'll be closing the store soon (yay!!)

HOBBY

So I've been thinking..and thinking some more lately.. A few of my friends had been telling me that I should really consider posting up videos on YouTube to showcase my work. The problem is... I'm not really a makeup guru.... so I couldn't think of what videos I would be posting! Haha!!! But HEY, why haven't I ever thought of this..???? I can start a hair styling tutorial channel! The idea just randomly popped up out of nowhere today too but it definitely sounds like so much fun!! First things first though. I am not a professional or licensed stylist so please do not get offended by the videos--I just purely want to share with everyone the way I style C: I absolutely love the idea of doing makeovers too! So I'm thinking of giving one to a different guest each week (or every other week, depending on how much time I have!) So let me know what you guys all think about these ideas~ C; I can't wait to start! Hahaha!!

THANKS

I don't think I had ever formally thanked anyone yet for supporting my new facebook page! So I want to say--I sincerely thank all of you so, so much!!!! ---Those of you who subscribed to my blog, those who didn't subscribe but have viewed or read any one of my entries, those of you who had commented on them, those who contributed to my entries, those who viewed my page, my work, commented on them as well, liked my page, suggested it to your friends, gave me a spontaneous list of more ideas to consider and probably something else I forgot to mention... but thank you all so much for doing this! It was really a great start for me, and I seriously did not expect any of it. :( You made me realize how much my work CAN be shared and loved with/by those alike! And you gave me this spotlight. It is small and courteous but for me, it offered the brightest, warmest place to stand. C: I love you all so dearly!!! Please promise me you'll stay true to what you love too!

LOVE, IVY <3 C;

----EDIT-----
OH! I had no idea you guys couldn't see the comment box until someone told me! Sorry about that~~ I fixed it now. Hopefully you can see it now. c: Let me know if you still can't! ^^;;Ivy Wanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15630656080581975937noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1904032823004096898.post-19738194498758942272010-06-15T22:20:00.001-04:002010-07-25T12:47:58.849-04:00My Favorite Products

Ivy Wanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15630656080581975937noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1904032823004096898.post-40478874037664850592010-06-11T22:53:00.003-04:002010-07-28T22:24:10.145-04:00Who Said There's No Fashion for the Short?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

Ivy Wanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15630656080581975937noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1904032823004096898.post-29927637229854632792010-05-26T00:24:00.005-04:002010-06-15T22:23:25.198-04:00Stripes and Flowers

(I actually wrote this two days ago but I didn’t have time to post it up until now)

I just came back from Urban Outfitters after a pretty relaxing family trip to the National Aquarium today (there was one nearby so I just had to drop in!!), and I saw SOOO many things I wanted to get!! –But sadly, I could only bite my lip and stare at them on the rack (imagine me standing there forever and looking suspicious) because I promised myself that I’d only shop once a month if I have to, and I already did so this month ; _;… (But I know I'll run into them again later on!!) —Okay so here are what I spotted.

A lovely striped, long tee with cute little buttons on the quarter sleeves ($38).

I like how the stripes don’t begin immediately but rather from chest down but not all the way. This style is quite popular now as you’ve probably already been seeing many similar copies of it. Cute, sassy, and simple. It’s so easy to match in any outfit—it is the perfect basic top to have in your wardrobe!

A gorgeous, pocket-full, leather satchel ($68). I’ve been looking for one of these things everywhere lately!! And now I’ve found it! I absolutely love how it has a pocket on each side and not only does it have handles, it also has a shoulder strap—hence a ‘luggage’/messenger bag’ kind of feel. (The look is too cool.) And the size of it is awesome! I adore big, roomy, soft—and apparently from the looks of my recent taste, quite old-looking material things! I was so excited to see it—and I’m not even a huge bag-fan type of girl.

Hm.. I thought I wasn’t ever going to be fond of floral prints either. But when I saw this gorgeous blue chiffon dropwaist dress ($58), it made me second glance at it and then I thought, …what pretty colors…! Rather than your usual ‘grandmother’s old table cloth’ print, it looked to me like a handful of wild flowers gently tossed into a pond of dark blue. And because the material is light and chiffon, in movement, it is starting to look to me now like the wind made the water ripple and flowers scatter along the flutters! (Sorry not trying to sound like a crazy fashion blogger now… ^^;; But seriously, don’t you think so…? XD) I’m sure if a cute little, white, knit, short sleeve jacket were thrown over it, topped with a straw fedora, it’d be a beautiful combination! ^^ (Too bad I haven’t worn a dress either in ages—me and my pants HA— Look what these trends did to me. -_- They made me talk about bags and dresses. )

This summer, I am all about oversized tees and sleeveless tops. Not only are they super comfy - especially in the ickiest, humid weather possible ... surprisingly, they compliment you too! Well first of all, I need to make something clear. They say short people have trouble finding clothes that compliment their figure and elongate their height. But, as a 5'7'', I have to say it is just as hard for us tall people to dress too! At often times, I end up making myself appear even taller, thinner, and giant-like than I really am. People always assume I'm 5'8''-_-, and my aunt who is probably around 5'2 or 3, ALWAYS buys me clothes that are Large and shoes that are 9 or 10! --- I 'm a Small and a size 8 1 / 2!!! : (

So I came to one conclusion. Maybe this is already common sense for you, but in case you don't already know --- tall people, AVOID VERTICAL LINES, PERFECT-FIT, SHORT TOPS, QUARTER SLEEVES, and CAPRIS. Okay well, that doesn't mean you can't ever wear those things. You just have to know how to balance them out with other things, rather than wearing them by themselves. So let me explain what I mean.

VERTICAL LINES - Say you have a long top that ends halfway before your knees. Now, by itself, it will create the illusion of a long torso. The pro of this is that if it is a short sleeve, it is okay to wear it alone with a normal pair of jeans because the sleeves help make your arms look less long, and consequently, the length of the top shortens your legs. To complete the look or to further "shrink" my height, I would usually throw in a small vest or jacket. (Not ones that are just as long! You want to create horizontal lines or "layers".) Sometimes a belt would even work too. The point is, as long as you have horizontal lines too, you are fine.

(left: ribbed cardigan, $20 - Puffy @ YesStyle.com)

(left: inset jeweled vest and print top, $28 - Puffy @ YesStyle.com)

PERFECT FIT - I don't know. Some people like their height and like to show it off. But if you are like me, and you find yourself feeling a bit awkward in a crowd because you stand out like a giraffe, then don't wear clothes that cling to you or are super fitting. The reason why not is because technically, our limbs and structure are much longer than everyone else's =/... so instead of wearing clothes that are exactly our length, we have to turn to those that are actually much more exaggerated or abstract ^ ^;; Hence, roomier, drapier, longer clothing! -But this is tricky, don't wear TOO much of it that it starts to look like you just tumbled out of your daddy's closet! Choose one favorite "abstract" piece of clothing and then balance it with a fitting piece!

SHORT TOPS - We're starting to see a lot of super short, wide tops now, I have a few of my own too. Here's how you're supposed to wear them (or at least, how I do) - right over a longer / fitting top or even a dress. The con about short tops is that if paired wrong with the rest of your outfit, you will end up making your legs or the bottom half of your figure look stretched out, or longer.

And you know, layers not only help proportonize, but they also add a spark of creativity and edge to your look. You're probably thinking though, that the layering days are gone with winter now, well not quite!

Thanks to these fun and lightweight/thin clothes, summer can go layers too!

(above: that's me in my outfit of the day haha)

QUARTER SLEEVES & CAPRIS - Same deal; when paired incorrectly, they will make your arms and legs look longer. Imagine wearing quarter sleeves WITH capris! O_O Oh no, then you'd look like a you've totally outgrown your clothes haha. (But for average height people, this is okay to do.) So what to do about that then? : / Hm .. you can either wear quarter sleeves with long bottoms or shorts, and capris with a long sleeves or a long top with short sleeves. -Again, I recommend a roomy top with your capris.

(<- knit top, $18/ cropped jeans, $35 - Puffy @ YesStyle.com)

Here's another question for you----Do you absolutely LOVE heels and want to wear them to look cute or charming but only end up looking "awkward" or HOT? (A very confident word yes, but in this case, a negative!)

Yes, I've had this problem before too. : ( (But thankfully I'm a bigger fan of flats and comfort so I don't really wear heels that much. XD)
Well if you want to keep your heels, then you should! Don't feel like you have to throw them away or shun yourself from wearing them because of this! Just remember to balance, balance, and balance! Wear a super wide comfy top-together with shorts and heels-preferably ankle or tall boots and you should look rather dashing! (Yay for horizontal lines!)
Of course, there's nothing we can really do about our height so at least we have to thank God there are so many clothes that allow us to illusionize / balance! After spending my high school years feeling all this awkwardness, I've finally grown to love my figure and proportion! You really have to appreciate yours, too, and think, what beautiful long legs or arms or torso you have. Never feel that just because the average people around you are shorter than you, there are no clothes to look good on you! Just choose the right ones and find the most comfortable you!! :)

Here's a BIG clue if you want something to remember by from this post, and that's---BIG things, shrink you. SMALL things, expand you. So if you are short and you have BIG objects on you (accessories or wide clothing) they will only make you look even smaller! Vice versa, if you are tall and you have SMALL objects on you, they will make you look bigger. So flip the two! ;)-And that's why I found my happiest resort for the summer! --- BIG TEES AND SHORTS / LEGGINGS WITH FLIP FLOPS / HIGH TOP SNEAKERS!!

What's your look for the summer?

PS: Sorry, I think I lied when I wrote in my first entry, that that was going to be my only longest post HAHA! Oh well, I guess I meant to say, it'll be my only boring-ist post. : D

PPS: This post was originally for those who have trouble accepting their height and need help on how to dress so they don't stand out like a giant, but as a natural, beautiful person. So if you actually love emphasizing the wonderful height and long limbs you have, then very good! Please don't feel insulted by this post-I am not trying to tell you to hide them! Haha ~ ^ o ^
First post here. So…

Why the name, ICONscious?
The name that originally came to me was actually “i-conscious”, short for “ivy-conscious”—as in this blog was going to be about the style that I love and infamously known to my family and close friends as “ivy style” (haha!). The letter “I” could also stand for the pronoun,“me” as in fashion is a very self-conscious topic.

But then the name became written as ICONscious, and I thought that made way more sense—to be iconically conscious is also what fashion is all about! So now, the name has three different meanings.

Why did I start this blog?

I really never thought of starting one! But as most of my friends and family may know, I am back home right now on a very important break before I return to school in New York so during this time I have here, I realized I do need a way to keep myself motivated and a way for me to keep my ideas running.

So I decided to give this blog a blind shot—hoping that it will help me in those ways. It'll be like keeping a fashion diary! (I should warn you though, if you are following this blog, that I can be very lazy sometimes ^^;; so hopefully, having viewers (and wanting to keep up with those goals I mentioned) will train me to be more responsible and active!)

So you see, I am not commiting a how-to or a documentary for anyone unless you'd like me to, because I do not dare say that I am professional enough to guide anyone. And I will not be disappointed either if no one reads this because my goal is not to have X number of viewers but rather to simply share openly, my thoughts and what I find alluring, with my deepest and most sincere passion in the topic of fashion. ---So view and comment as you like! I will be posting up more entries and pictures of what I've discovered in the past and recently, pretty soon!

Lastly, thanks a bunch for viewing! Please follow ICONscious if you like the topics I cover—Support me! =] (And please share with me your thoughts on my entries. I’d like to know what you think too!!)
